To have no attachments or possessions, such that nothing is subject to being considered 'lost', or even able to be considered lost. Since I don't believe that I own the sun, I don't fear losing it. But, in the popular materialist paradigm, from which death is viewed as eternal blackness, perhaps there is fear of losing all objective experience (except the colour black) including the sun, rivers, and trees. In a world made up of things, of which absolutely none are deemed 'ours', not even the body, mind, or spirit- one is completely free.
Is psychological death (ego death) physical death?
The notion of ownership is subjective, since some people forget that they own a car, and others strongly believe that they own a car and don't want anyone to forget it
If ownership is purely mental, non-ownership must be, too, Nothing would have to change except for a radical change in perspective. This radical change would be almost guaranteed if one lived an ascetic life.
Perhaps it is wise to reduce the amount of things own 'owns' down to 0, however gradually. Depending on the purpose of doing so, which depends on one's level of spiritual knowledge, it will be wise / foolish.
“To fear death, gentlemen, is no other than to think oneself wise when one is not, to think one knows what one does not know. No one knows whether death may not be the greatest of all blessings for a man, yet men fear it as if they knew that it is the greatest of evils.” - Socrates
