If the law of attraction is real- what we focus on with our mind really does affect what happens in life, then it should be taken very seriously.
How can I take it more seriously?
It's probably a good idea to stop watching YouTube videos about shocking news stories- I've just stopped watching a bunch of them in a row (some of my favourite things to watch at the moment are conversations / monologues from conservatives about the radical left, to do with culture wars, gender, etc. I find the whole thing fascinating...) and although I find it entertaining, I'm just focusing on shocking stuff that I don't want happening in the world.
Practice (our ability to do it develops over time as we do it more) being grateful for what we have right now in earnest. The beliefs that cause us to be ungrateful need not be there, and I think meditation makes the unconscious conscious in this regard. In the same way that we dislike giving more to those who don't truly appreciate what they have, maybe 'the powers that be' dislike giving us what we want when we're not happy with what we have. I think I'm beginning to see how that might actually be a real barrier.
