Suffering is is like a headache - ignore it and it goes away - try to affect it, and it affects back -
End suffering in the same way you end a headache
Identify the things that are causing it and e d your engagement with them.
Lifestyle changes to prevent headaches include limiting screen-time, eating healthy food, getting good sleep, etc.
Lifestyle changes to prevent suffering include eating healthy food, getting good sleep, daily meditation, good social time, etc.
Think about how headaches actually stop - there’s never usually an exact time you can pinpoint that the headache has left - you just go about your day ignoring it then suddenly think about it and realise that it‘s gone.
It’s the same for suffering, but you must make sure to eat healthily, sleep well, etc. In the same way that the person with the headache should go about their day but avoid too much screen-time, eating sweets, etc. if they want it to go.
Some people focus on the headache in an effort to destroy it, but this has the same result as focusing on a headache- just aggravates it.
However, there is another type of focusing that may help, and it’s more of an allowing: focus + non-resistance. Another way of saying this is to ‘hold’ the suffering as if your hands are made out of pure nothingness.
